Minecraft’s Wilderness Bound game drop* has landed for Nintendo Switch, which means the expedition into a new rust-toned forest biome begins! Discover the beauty of the dappled forest, a mysterious structure, the cushion, a new way to skip the night, and more features for every expedition.

New biome: the dappled forest

Get ready to take on the great outdoors with an adventure into the dappled forest. Full of red shrubs and poplar trees in various autumnal colours, this biome is an atmospheric and cosy place to both explore and set up camp. Climb the bouncy shelf mushrooms to scout out the place, then build a shelter using the new poplar wood set. If you’re lucky, you might also stumble upon a new mysterious structure...

New structure: the abandoned camp

Word around the campfire is that a new structure hides in our forest biomes. Head out among the rusty poplar trees and you might find the abandoned camp structure, but abandoned by whom? An empty tent, some straw beds, cushions, and a campfire are the only signs of life (if you don't count the loot left behind...).

Will you take comfort in its shelter or be too busy wondering who abandoned it?

New feature: the cushion

For the first time in Minecraft history, players can now sit down using the cushion! This versatile addition opens up a cushy world of new furniture and roleplaying in-game. Cushions can be used as decorations or for taking a well-deserved rest – whether you’re telling stories around a campfire, having a festive dinner, or just taking in the scenery. Find a cushion in an abandoned camp or craft one using three wool slabs of the same colour.

Skip the night with the straw bed

Want to venture further into the Overworld without losing track of home? You can now use the straw bed! Straw beds are consumable blocks with which you can skip the night without resetting your respawn point. Perfect when you don’t feel like facing hostile mobs after some spirited adventuring, or when you just want to sleep under the stars. Find straw beds in the abandoned camp or craft one using three hay bales.

New blocks: Poplar wood set, wool and concrete slabs and stairs

With Wilderness Bound comes a whole new set of building blocks to help you make the great outdoors your own. Chop down (or punch – this is Minecraft, after all) poplar trees and craft the warm-grey wood into a full poplar wood set, including decorative herringbone doors and trapdoors. Add soft shapes and cosy details with wool slabs and stairs, available in all 16 colours, or bring some structure to your builds with colourful concrete slabs and stairs. Whether you're building a cosy hideout, a sturdy outpost, or something entirely your own, there's more to build with than ever.
