The convenience of digital products has been outpacing the diminishing interest in physical media. To adapt to the current generation, Xbox has introduced a new hardware feature for physical collectors.
This new feature allows users to install physical games into hardware as digital entitlements. This unlocks the benefits of digital games, like Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming, without any need to steal value from a physical disc. Most Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S games are eligible for the new feature on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X hardware.
Asha Sharma, Xbox CEO, has emphasized the importance of preserving physical libraries, which is why she’s confirmed more games will be eligible for digitization through future updates. This new gaming preservation feature will launch for Xbox Insiders on Monday, August 31, 2026.
