Netflix and Sega Announce Crazy Taxi and Stranger Than Heaven Films, New Sonic

Netflix and Sega are expanding their collaboration with adaptations of three Sega properties. Crazy Taxi and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s upcoming Stranger Than Heaven are getting films, while Sonic the Hedgehog will receive a new animated series aimed at an upper preschool audience.

Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who wrote the Crazy Taxi film, worked on the 2025 reboot of The Naked Gun. Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher will produce alongside Sega producer Toru Nakahara.

Netflix is also developing a film based on Stranger Than Heaven. Toru Nakahara will produce the adaptation. Further production details, including its cast and creative team, have not been announced.

The third project is a new Sonic the Hedgehog animated series in development with Carlos Stevens and Nakahara. Sonic and his friends will be presented as heroes for an upper preschool audience, with the show focusing on comedy, action, and the group’s relationships.
